Jon and Elizabeth: A Sign-Inspired Meet-Cute
Ah, February: Candy hearts, bouquets of roses, chocolate strawberries, and pink greeting cards. (Also football-themed snacks and Superbowl parties, amirite??). It’s a love-is-in-the-air kind of month for a lot of us, and whether you’re celebrating Galentine’s or Valentine’s, spoiling your kiddos or your bros, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the world’s great love stories.
While the rest of humanity is obsessed with Taylor and Travis (who isn’t?), we’re obsessed with our very own celebrity couple who met because of…. SIGNS.
Signs By Tomorrow: A love story for the ages
Think back to the aughts, when Justin Bieber’s “Baby” was hot on the charts and everyone was playing Angry Birds. Our leading lady, Elizabeth, was working as the director of the Elgin YMCA. Busy with day-to-day duties, she’d never met the charming Jon from Signs By Tomorrow, despite having worked with them for years.
One of her happily-married co-workers, though, always put on lipstick before Jon came to the Y, and when she finally met him, she understood why (swoon!).
For Jon’s part, he continued to deliver signs and fulfill orders in a respectful, professional manner, never intending to ask out the enchanting Elizabeth. It wasn’t until a co-worker at the Y casually cornered him to suggest that he and Elizabeth would be a good match, that he decided to take a shot.
Their first date was at an Italian restaurant.
Jon snuck dryer sheets under all the seats in his car so it wouldn’t smell like a White Castle drive thru; Elizabeth knew he was special from the beginning.
A lot has changed since then (they’ve been married over 13 years and are raising three boys) but some things haven’t: Elizabeth still loves watching Jon connect with people, make them laugh and feel special. Jon is still mesmerized by Elizabeth’s beauty and sparkling personality, which somehow manages to make everything in life—from the mundane to the extraordinary—fun.
And, without signs, none of this would have happened.
