Hiring? Get Great Talent with Great Signage
From “Help Wanted” to “Hired”
Remember this viral story from 2013 about a guy who bought a billboard to get a job? He couldn’t keep up with all the offers. By 2016, he was begging folks to stop retweeting the story since he’d been gainfully employed for years.
Where are we going with this?
Signs work.
(The internet does, too, but Twitter ain’t what it used to be, while the magic of good signage remains steadfast).
But if you’re the one doing the hiring, how do you use signs to attract the right people?
1. Placement Matters
This is a true story: An SBT team member visited a Lowe’s bathroom and noted that they’d hung their hiring signage on the door.
The slogan? “You’ll love it here.” Maybe NOT the best tagline for a restroom door.
(We love your bathrooms, Lowe’s. Just not your sign placement.)
2. Visibility Matters
If you’re looking to attract local talent, put your signs where locals will see it. A storefront window where there’s heavy foot traffic is prime real estate.
However, if you want to hire someone who already loves your business, consider hanging your “help wanted” signs inside the shop. Loyal shoppers who already know and support your work will be the first to snap up the job.
3. Quality Matters
Putting up a flimsy sheet of paper or hand-writing “help wanted” might seem like an adequate way to communicate your message, but remember that quality attracts quality. If you want exceptional employees, show potential hires that you are committed to every aspect of your business, hiring process included.
Branded, bold, beautiful “now hiring” signs will do just that.
4. Distinction Matters
Use bright colors, eye-catching fonts, and big, legible text. If you have the space, consider adding testimonials from your current employees about why they love working for your company. Nothing is quite as powerful as the praise of a happy team.
